How can I change Time Machine quota?

Try

sudo tmutil setquota {ID} {SIZE_IN_GB}

You can determine the ID with

sudo tmutil destinationinfo

If you create a new Time Machine backup you can specific a quota. There doesn't seem to be a way to adjust the quota after the fact though.

It is a function of APFS Volumes. You can set a quota on creation, but you cannot change it after the fact.

You would have to check in the NAS management software.

If you created an APFS drive for some reason, it can only be set on creation.

I don't know. I don't remember Time Machine asking for a quota.

If you erase the drive, especially into Mac OS Extended, then set it up for Time Machine, it will ask to configure it. There will be no quota set.

This is correct, once you have a quota set per "ingmar_s" above. Before that you will see the "1.5 TB available" part only. Also this a way to know that you have no quota limit.

Lastly make sure you are using GB numbers (like 1000 for a TB) and not 1.0 as it will not take a number that low. :)

Time Machine has no such setting.

It uses all of the space on the volume as allocated.

You didn't mention how the shared network drive is being made available. Having a NAS is a common way to make network drives available to multiple users.

So Terminal did accept the command. But how do you verify the quota afterwards?

EDIT: Disregard. If you run "sudo tmutil destinationinfo" again afterwards, it now shows the quota.
