How can I change Time Machine quota?

I'm using Sonoma v14.0.

I have several computers making Time Machine backups to a shared network drive (all using the same user account on that shared network drive). When I initially added the Time Machine disk it gave me the option to set a storage limit (i.e., start deleting old Time Machine backups once the total storage used for Time Machine for this computer reaches X TB). When I initially set up the disk, it wasn't shared so I did not set a quota. Now I would like add one. Is there any way to do this?

  • Is there an option to do this?
  • If not, can I remove and re-add the disk (i.e., go into Time Machine settings and delete this disk... then add it back) without losing the existing backup history?

Thanks!

Try

sudo tmutil setquota {ID} {SIZE_IN_GB}

You can determine the ID with

sudo tmutil destinationinfo
