After iOS 17 Update, my XR charges much slower with third party chargers.

Is there a definite reason for this change, or is Apple intentionally doing this? I've heard Apple has intentionally slowed down older devices with each update, but could there be another reason?

Hi RottenKiwi,

From the Apple Support article Charge the iPhone battery are the following instructions which outline use of third-party chargers:

"Charge the battery

To charge iPhone, do any of the following:

  • Connect iPhone to a power outlet using the charging cable (included) and an Apple USB power adapter or other compatible power adapter (sold separately). See Power adapters for iPhone."

and

"Note: You can also use third-party power adapters and Qi-certified chargers that are compliant with applicable country regulations and international and regional safety standards. See “Charging” in Important safety information for iPhone."

As long as the charger you're using is compliant and meets the requirement there should be no difference in charging speeds. The rate at which your device charges will depend on factors such as whether Optimized Battery Charging is enabled or not, the power rating of the cable and wall adapter, wired vs wireless charging, device temperature and others.

Regards.
