Time Machine Drive, permissions and restore

I have a case that has been passed to two senior advisors and they have not been able to figure out or help with the Time Machine Issue. I just got off the phone with one of them after working with someone at the apple store earlier today. I am attaching screenshots to see if anyone would have any idea.

1) Migration assistance - attempted to use this method to restore to my mac

* shows an message under the userid "This user's data doesn't need to to be transferred" -> guy at the apple store and on the phone could not find any info on this. See screenshot

* We selected a few backups and they only show about 18Gs of data to be restored vs the over 300GB of data I have.

* an older backup, over a year ago (after upgrading Mac OS several months ago) shows "Conflicts detected. Finish selecting the information you'd like to transfer, then click continue to fix any conflicts".

2) Browsing Time Machine Backups in Finder

* you will see the screenshots i list some of the backups and they have a red circle ( i think it may be permissions issue)

* In the screenshot you will see in the GeInfo menu, bottom left it shows you can only read. Another time machine backup drive I have shows different permissions.

3) Attempted a backup -

  • you will see the message "Time Machine Couldn't complete the backup to "DRIVE NAME". An error occurred while starting the backup. Anti-virus software may be preventing Time Machine from writing to the backup. Could not get pass it.

Anyone have any ideas? See screenshot

Are you running any VPN, Anti-Virus, or Cleaning apps?

When you started the migration assistant did you check off jreyes as a folder you wanted to transfer?

Has the folder already been created on the machine you migrated?

Is there enough space, to temporarily rename the home folder that's on the destination machine and try migrating again if you want jreyes to be migrated in full?

Keep in mind changing the shortname as it is called to make that home folder unusable as a login folder, but you can use administrative permissions to pull data out of it. If there is data already in the home folder you want not to be lost before you do this, login the home folder on the destination machine, and copy the contents to the Users -> Shared folder before renaming it something temporary.
