Sonoma Desktop Icons Disorganized After Reboot

I am experiencing what I believe to be a long-time problem with macOS. Ever since I updated to macOS Sonoma this past September, whenever I reboot my machine, the icons for my external hard drives, and other desktop icons, are scattered all over the place on my Desktop. Even if I organize them the way that I like them, the next time I reboot my iMac, they are disorganized again. "Cleani Up By Name" in the contextual menu does help, but then, I still have to move the organized columns more to the right on my screen so that they are flush up against the right side of my screen. Has anyone found a solution to this problem? Thank you.

I keep my HD icon in the upper right corner, but after Sonoma it keeps moving, usually under the trash can or somewhere in the middle under the calendar. Never in the same place twice, unless it's in the trash. Then if I am working on a file, and go to click on another file, everything disappears. Would be nice if Apple didn't feel necessary to radically change everything when they do an upgrade.
