Notifications issue on my iPhone 15

Recently moved over to iPhone 15 Pro Max. Have noticed what seems like a bug.

I am running iOS 17.0.3 and for Gmail, WhatsApp and Messages I prefer to have motivations for Lock Screen, Notification Centre and banners set to false so these do not display. However I keep sound and haptics active for all 3 of these.

But with these settings then I don’t get any sound or haptic notification. The only way sound and haptic works is if I enable a combination of the banner options.

This is frustrating because I don’t want banners.
