Issues connecting Prolific 2303 USB to Serial Device after upgrading to macOS Sonoma

I am having problems connecting my USB to Serial device to my M1 MacBook Pro after upgrading to MacOS Sonoma a couple weeks ago. The device appears to connect, is visible to the application but will not work. I have checked the cable thoroughly and it is fine. I can't find any mention of Sonoma support on Prolific's website - but I don't see many complaints about this on other forums.

Am am wondering if I have a driver issue?

Thanks,

Scott

Make sure your "Privacy & Security" System Settings is not blocking any USB connections with the "Allow accessories to connect" option located in the Security section located past all the Privacy options (I prefer the "Automatically when unlocked" setting since having macOS ask permission caused me problems).

You may also need to grant the USB to Serial Device some Privacy exception options in order for macOS to allow communication. Not sure what app or utility nor what privacy option would be involved.

If you had it working with Ventura, then it is possible Sonoma toggled a setting. I know Sonoma broke some things very basic to macOS such as mounting .dmg archives which require manual intervention.

macOS 14.1 patch was just released, so you may want to try updating to see if that helps as well.

I can't find the "Allow accessories to connect" section in Mac OS Sonoma 14.5; I suspect it is not there. Very frustrating; both Prolific and Silicon Labs Serial USB solutions show up as a USB device, but no /dev/**... is being created. Console shows the device being matched up with the Apple USB Serial Port driver.

I also tried both the Silicon Labs and Prolific DEXT based drivers with now luck (I happen to be a DEXT developer).

I have the new M3 14" MacBook Pro. Running 14.4.1 Sonoma.

I am trying to get rig control of my radio.

No usb to serial connection is being made. under system info my device shows up when plugged in.

No zero control.

Arduino has no port for connecting to board.

I tried Prolific 2303 and others, and ftdi driver also. nothing works.

for experimentation I downloaded parallels and installed windows 11, then download it driver and still no com port connection.

Also, I tried doing what they did in YouTube videos for getting a connection and none of the videos worked. I theorize that is because of the changes and the operating system from these videos from 1 to 3 yrs ago.

just need the /dev/tty serial port path and driver.
