Apple Magic mouse generation 2 - click is not the same?

I upgraded my Apple mouse from gen 1 to gen 2 and noticed that the new mouse clicks differently. I will try to explain

Gen 1 mouse: I can tap, or I can press. When I press, I hear and feel the click.

Gen 2 mouse: it feels like there are two clicks, when I gently tap it, I hear and feel a minor click AND I can press all the way down. It is like there are two clicking positions: half-way click, and all-way-down click.

Can someone explain what is going on? Should I return and exchange, or is it a feature?

Thanks!

Hello unsu,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities, it's great to have you here.

What you're describing sounds very similar to Force Touch on certain models of trackpad, as described here: How to use the Force Touch trackpad - Apple Support. With that being said, this feature is not available on Magic Mouse so it wouldn't be expected that you would feel the same feature built into that product. Without being able to inspect it in person, it can be difficult to say if this is expected behavior or if something else may be going on.

Since the best way to figure this out would be to physically inspect the mouse, we recommend heading in to your nearest Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider. If you have service in your area, this would allow a technician to check out the mouse in person and get an idea for what might be going on. Here's where to start: Find Locations

Thank you for being a part of the community here. We hope this information helps!

Best wishes.
