Printing a selection in Numbers

I want to print part of a spreadsheet in Numbers. I can see that in April 2015 there was only a workaround using Preview. Is it still impossible to select part of a spreadsheet for printing?

If you want to print part of a table consider selecting the cells, command-c then in Preview command-n and print from Preview.

Maybe a click or two more than in Excel but still fast and convenient. Keeps the Numbers interface uncomplicated.

I'm all for "workarounds" if they are as simple and efficient as this one!

Hello iChasF,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities, it's great to have you here.

For questions about printing a spreadsheet in Numbers, we would recommend checking out this article: Print a spreadsheet in Numbers on Mac - Apple Support. That resource has the best information on this topic and should be helpful. With regard to printing only a certain section of a spreadsheet, it may be best to take only the portion of that spreadsheet that you require and create a new document using only that information. You could then print that separate document on its own, without having to print only a small section of your existing spreadsheet.

We hope that this information is useful.

Many thanks!

Hi iChasF,

Create a "Presentation" table with a summary of your large data table.

The Presentation could be the selection that you want to print, copied and pasted to another Sheet.

Or, the Presentation could be created by formulas that show (for example) Totals of data.

Print only that Sheet.

The Numbers Template Chooser has excellent ideas on how to design Numbers documents.

Ian.

Hi Chas,

Since Numbers was first released in 2007 until now, the Numbers development team at Apple has never tried to create an Excel clone. Excel consists of huge arrays of cells with data here and there. I heard it expressed eloquently as:

Each Excel sheet is a huge "ocean" of cells with small "islands" of data here and there.

Numbers does not follow that design. Numbers allows for several tables on the "canvas". Each table can be tailored to a specific purpose and size, and moved to other sheets (example, a "Presentation" sheet). Therefore Numbers has never had a need for Print Selection, or Set Print Area, or Insert Page Break.

Again, I encourage you to browse the Numbers Template Chooser for ideas where there is no need to constantly

just select and print as you can in MS Excel

Happy Numbering!

Ian.
