converting files made by older iMovie version
I've been trying for some time to offload several tapes which were made by an old Digital-8 camera I have onto a Mac. In the past, I've tried this with a G5, but the FireWire adapters (the camera uses the original cable) made the process unstable and unreliable. I have recently found and resurrected an old blue/white G3, 233mHz, and with iMovie 1.01 installed successfully imported one segment to attempt editing and placement on a DVD on a 2014 iMac running 11.5 and iMovie 13. When transferred (thumb drive), the raw imported files show up as "Unix Executable files" and are not importable into iMovie 13. When I made a movie on the G3 out of the individual clips in that segment and exported it as a MOV file, they show up the same way. My thought is that I'm going to have to find an older Mac running a version of OS X in the OS9-OSX overlap period and convert them to the version of iMovie on that machine, then try importing them into 13. Is that feasible, or is there another, better way? There are some videos on there that are very important to us in a nostalgic way.
