Wave like effect going through screen when iPhone placed next to another iPhone

I am pretty sure, I wasn’t imagining… when I placed my new iPhone next to my old iPhone (not for any particular reason) on the old phone’s screen a wave like effect went from top to bottom and then disappeared. Never to do that again. I tried searching for it, but didn’t find anything like this.

was it like connectivity thing? Please tell me I’m not losing it 🫠

This a feature that is enabled in your iPhone Settings>General>AirDrop>(Turn Off - Bringing Devices Together) this will stop this auto sharing option and you can enable the same as you need. At times this is a annoying option, has to be disabled as per user preference.

Hello bernadett99,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

If you have iOS 17, AirDrop is initiated when bringing phones together. That may be what you are seeing:

"How to use AirDrop

  1. Open an app, then tap Share or the Share button . If you share a photo from the Photos app, you can swipe left or right and select multiple photos.
  2. Tap the AirDrop button. An iPhone showing the share sheet with photos selected and the AirDrop option displayed.
  3. Tap the AirDrop user1 that you want to share with. Or you can use AirDrop between your own Apple devices. An iPhone showing the AirDrop a Copy screen with people and devices you can select. If you see a red numbered badge on the AirDrop button, there are multiple devices nearby that you can share with. Tap the AirDrop button, then tap the user that you want to share with. Learn what to do if you don't see the AirDrop user or your other device.

If you're near someone in your Contacts, you can share by opening the content that you want to share, then bringing your devices together."

Additional details can be found here: How to use AirDrop on your iPhone or iPad

If the issue persists, can you provide a few more details? Also, which iOS versions do you currently have installed?

Cheers!
