iMac 2014 only runs on mojave

Has anyone had this problem? I’ve got an iMac mid 2014 and it only runs on mojave. I’ve just picked it up from a computer shop to try and sort the software issue out. My Mac was with the IT guy for 3 days, he really struggled with it. At first it wouldn’t have anything but the maverick but today he managed to get mojave back on it. He told me not to update it to the big sur as it was just unresponsive. He very nearly gave up on it. Today I’ve tried to get Microsoft word installed on it but Mojave is too old for the newest version of word. I just need a computer for light work such as emails, saving files, word etc but I’m just not having much luck. All this from just trying to upgrade it to big sur which it popped up in my settings that the update was available. I have an iPhone and have done for as long as I can remember and never had an issue with it. It’s just this bloody iMac I’m not having much luck with :( thanks in advance guys.

Have you installed and run any "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus or VPN apps on your Mac?

Download and run Etrecheck. Be sure to give it Full Disk access before running.

Copy and paste the results into your reply. Etrecheck is a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC and recommended by Apple Support  to provide a snapshot of the system and help identify the more obvious culprits that can adversely affect a Mac's performance.

Did you take it to a general computer repair shop or to an Apple Authorized Service Provider. If you did not take it to an Apple Authorized Service Provider please do so now and explain your problem. NEVER EVER take a Mac that needs a repair to your local computer repair shop unless they are an Apple Authorized Service Provider. Why.....simple they don't have the training, knowledge or tools to fully diagnose and understand your Mac!!!!!!

If you already took it to an Apple Authorized Service Provider then please take it back and explain your problem.
