FINALLY! How to change ANSI Keyboard to ISO

I had for long time a problem and could not use my keyboard properly

< got to § and other switches.

I did sooo many things, but finally found a way!

Basically, you need to press the Y Key instead of the special char.

1) Delete this file:

sudo rm /Library/Preferences/com.apple.keyboardtype.plist

2) Start the Assistant again here:

System Settings > Keyboard > Change Keyboardtype

3) Start the process

don't click: < or any other special char right from the SHIFT key

instead click: Y key

4) continue a new process

click the key left from the SHIFT key on the right side.

Choose ISO Layout -> your good to go!

Delete Karabiner :D

This didn't work for me

I also tried restarting my computer

restarting my keyboard, forgetting it, removing the keyboardtype.plist file from core preferences and all the permutations of the above

I ended up using karabiner to remap the keys

My specific problem was that both the key just over tab next to the key "1" was displaying "|" symbol as well as the key to the right of the left shift key on my latin american keyboard layout

it did identify the key to the right of the left shift key as when it should be actually displaying the "<" symbol

"grave_accent_and_tilde (`)"

I created a "simple modification" just for my external keyboard device that maps

"grave_accent_and_tilde (`)" to "non_us_backslash"

and another one after that one that maps

"non_us_backslash" to ""grave_accent_and_tilde (`)"

and that solved my issue
