I called Goldman Sachs and cannot get my actual card number to set up my apple card in my bill pay at my bank. They said they would mail it to me, but sure enough I have received nothing. Someone has to give me my card number, don't they?

There is no account number. You'll want to connect with support as you were lucky that the last payment using Bill Pay was accepted. Non-conforming payments can be rejected at any time, for any reason; not to mention the inherent exposure of your account information to anyone handling a paper check.
I used my virtual number in my bill pay at my **. It made the journey via paper check and was applied to my account. However I still do not have my actual account number.
