I own the standard iPhone 12, it is about a year old. For some reason, my phone will quiet down randomly when playing music on speaker. This only seems to happen when I’m driving at night. It is not a clogged speaker, because it will be playing full volume and then quiet down if the screen wakes. After checking my volume level, it is still at max. I use Apple Music.

Troubleshooting CarPlay and Decreasing Volume:
For me, it takes a few tries to get it to pair, most certainly...
A. Driver's Manual:
Read your driver's manual to find out more about syncing this.
B. Re-Pair this, while in Park:
Unpair your device from your car, and then par it. For many, they must have their automobile in park to get this to all pair.

ive worked it down to two causes, turning on/off the display with the lock button as well as getting notifications with the proximity sensor covered (the screen won’t turn on but music will lower about half each time) hope this helps
I’ve got a 12 mini, same issue here but it’s not carplay related. It *feels* like a sensor issue. It actually got even quieter when i clicked onto this page 🥲
