Portrait mode crashes on iOS 17

this happens to me 30% of the time. The camera app captures the photo then goes black and locked. Then I unlock the phone and the photo is not captured in Photos app. I lost so many good moments for this camera bug since 2-3 months.

Hi, I have the same issue on my brand new iPhone 15, all updates installed. Portrait mode is basically not useable. First picture usually works, with the second the loading circle on the shutter keeps spinning endlessly and no picture is taken. Only solution is to force close the camera app. Its frustrating.

Same here. I’m on base model iPhone 13 with iOS 17.2 PB. Phone gets really hot but no overheating message. Sometimes the app doesn’t crash but just shows a black screen. Happens with every few portrait photos. Hopefully this gets fixed soon!

I have had the same issue on the iPhone 15 Pro Max running 17.1.2. I have done factory and soft resets; I even got a new replacement device, but the issue persists. This is 100% an Apple OS defect that has not been resolved. I have not found a resolution from Apple at this time.

UPDATE:

After many trial/error troubleshooting, I found a resolution (without Apple support, lol). The following actions resulted in the resolution of this issue.

1. Open Settings
2. Select General
3. Select Transfer or Reset iPhone
4. Select Reset
5. Select Reset All Settings

This will restart your iPhone, and you will lose your general settings/preferences, but all apps and data will remain.

Same issue with my iPhone 13 and its really frustrating. Any specific help rather than generic answer will be really appreciated.

Portrait mode> few clicks>phone heats up>camera closes/crashes. Facing this issue with recent 17.2 updates on my iPhone 13.

This was suggested to my Apple support and i did the same.. the issue resolved for few clicks and was back again in 1-2 days

Seriously, It frustrating while taking the photos in portrait mode keep on crashing

Same here, brand new iPhone 15 with all updates installed and portrait mode is unusable after the first picture. Apple are we reading this?

When I started having this issue, I reset the settings as suggested on this thread. It definitely sped up my phone but the freezing, crashing, and heating up continued. The only durable solution I have found is to restart my phone every night (when trying to restart in the morning, I would sometimes have issues of the phone getting laggy and hot over night which is a bigger problem).

I reset the settings the way you described. It fixed my camera crashing problem but also made my phone way faster and more responsive. Thanks for posting this.

Did all steps. Also reset all the settings. Still the issue is there. This issue is only when using the potrait mode
