I purchased my iMac new in December 2021. The model number shown is 21.5-inch, 2017. I have kept my software up to date, and am running Ventura 13.6. Evidently, this model is not compatible with the new Sonoma update. Is that really possible considering that I've had this computer for less than 3 years?

Thank you for your reply. I apologize for giving the wrong purchase date. I am still looking for my original receipt, but the ship date on the carton is 12/29/2020, so it is still less than 3 years old.
If it is a 2017 iMac, technology-wise it is over five years old, regardless of when it was actually assembled. If it was actually built for sale in 2019 (4 years old), it is one year from becoming "vintage" in Apple's brain.
Since the hardware is from 2017, it won't work with Sonoma no matter what year it was manufactured or what year you purchased it.
If you bought it from Apple, the receipt should be on the Apple Store website under your account.

Just to add, Apple stopped make the 2017 iMac in 2019, so not sure how new it could have been.
What does your Apple receipt say?
I don't believe Apple sells old stock except in the refurbished site.
There was a 2020 iMac, so that should have been the only thing offered in 2021.

You're welcome. That doesn't make much sense. Apple started selling the 2019 iMacs March of 2019.
They did sell the 21.5" 2019 iMac until April 2021.
