Chrome not working on iMac.

In the last several days Chrome has stopped working well on my iMac. The app opens and runs, but my trackpad appears not to work consistently within the app. This has happened across various websites. For example, while using Campaign Monitor, I was able to click the button to save my email design, but when I clicked on the preview button, it's as if it wasn't even a button at all. Nothing happened.

I've noticed this on Mailchimp, Google docs, my insurance provider website, Campaign Monitor, and more.

I turned my trackpad off and back on, I plugged it in, I restarted Chrome, and then restarted my computer and nothing helps.

(I have started using Safari instead of Chrome without any of the same issues).

What is going on?

Please uninstall Chrome, then restart the computer in Safe Mode (note this can take up to 10 minutes). Next navigate to Google's Chrome download page and download and install the most current version of Chrome. Then restart normally and test.

By chance do you have any third party:

  • Antivirus apps
  • Cleaning apps
  • Security apps
  • VPN apps

installed on the computer?

I'm not understanding is it the Computer, or some site you can't login to?

Start with this if M1, M2, or M3 Mac...

On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > Shut Down.

Wait for your Mac to shut down completely. A Mac is completely shut down when the screen is black and any lights (including in the Touch Bar) are off.

Press and hold the power button on your Mac until “Loading startup options” appears.

Select a volume.

Press and hold the Shift key, then click Continue in Safe Mode.

The computer restarts automatically. When the login window appears, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar.

Does the problem occur in Safe Mode?

Restart normally.

Start with this if IntelMac...

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes or more.

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.
