WD My Passport HDD to be initialized

the HDD is one of my old: already used on my iMac OS Snow Leopard; today, new Catalina OS (neither Finder or Disk Utility SOS/initialize)don't recognizes it.

using Terminal I have identified it as disk3; The command "diskutil eraseDisk ExFAT /dev/disk3" (APFS as well) launches the process, And eventually returns "Error: -69760: Unable to write to the last block of the device".

is there any chance but throwing the device away?

Issue with WD My Passport, Mac not enabling mount of a previously perfectly working external hard drive configured for Mac. Hi, While using Final Cut Pro yesterday, which backs up to a WD My Passport external hard drive, the program was running sluggish, so I rebooted the MAC and it stopped recognising the external drive. This was greyed out in Disk Utility, after many attempts I have been able to run First aid, but this has been running for over2 hours. The hard drive is 5T with around 73% left of storage. Would this be normal or is it locked? Should I force quit? Apple support have advised the external drive may compromised and I should reset it, but I'm loathe to lose the data stored on it - as this was my backup, if this is not the issue and the drive can be repaired. Any ideas please??? Thank you

WD Drive - Western Digital drive :: Read only Hi, I had this challenge today : my brand new WD Passport 4To get mounted on my Mac but even with the WD Discovery app, it remained in read only status. Impossible to use it... After having searched the internet I have found this thread : WD External Drive is Read Only? - Apple Community As explained, "If it's formatted as an NTFS drive Macs can't write to it." My Disk Utility showed me that it was my case. What I have done : I have used a PC with Windows installed and connected my WD Passport via USB. It was then possible to format the disk as ExFAT. Back to my Mac, I was able to use my new external disk of 4 To. Hoping that it will help you. Western Digital is makes it hard for the Mac users... Best, D.

(com.apple.DiskManagement.dis enter error 49153 Disk failed to mount on MacBook Pro running Ventura 13.4 However, the disk mounted satisfactorily on an older MacBook Pro that was running Monterey 12.6.5. And when I put it back on the Ventura machine it still failed to mount. On the older machine, all the data is present. On the newer machine I was unable to mount it and so unable to tell if the data was there. But it is there. The disk is a WD My Passport Ultra 4TB drive. Got popup error message "NTFS for Mac Failed to mount volume /Volumes/4TB for video on /dev/disk2s1" The error message in the subject of this question came from Disk Utility. I have an older WD My Passport for Mac 2TB drive that works fine on both machines. Go figure.
