Enabling Bluetooth notifications on iPhone SE

At the same time I “lost” the toggle switch (coincident with an operating system update) on my iPhone SE (not sure if it’s 2nd or 3rd gen.) for enabling Bluetooth notifications, incoming text messages no longer were displayed on my Subaru (2017 Impreza LTD.) navigation screen. The car dealership is convinced this is a phone issue and not a car problem. The Apple Genius Bar in South Portland, Maine could not solve my problem either. I’ve seen numerous people posting on this but still no remedies.

Can anyone out there help ?

Can anyone out there help ? At almost 76 years of age I’m not terribly tech-savvy so please “dumb down” your replies.
