Imac 27" late 2012 upgrade to Mac Mini M2

Hello, I would like to know if it is a good option to upgrade my Imac 27" (late 2012) with 32GB memory and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2 GB to a Mac mini M2, 8GB memory and 256GB storage with an external SSD storage with 2TB? I've been using my iMac for everyday things for years and the only heavy thing is Final Cut Pro.

IMHO, that would be a nice upgrade... though I think you should seriously consider that the internal drive and the RAM cannot be upgraded after you buy it.

So, I'd advise upgrading the internal drive capacity of the mini to no less than 500GB. Whatever the size of the drive in your current iMac, that should be a guide to what you'll want as you move forward.

Also, bump the RAM to 16GB minimum. The current macOS can run in 8GB today, barely. I think you'd be doing yourself a bit of a favor to future-proof the mini for the next 10 years.
