iPad 6th gen running slow

I have iPad 6th generation (2018), running 17.0.3. Model 1893 w/cellular and wifi. Model number MR7J2LL/A. 128 GB. 90 GB avail.

Over the last 60-90 days or so this seemed to gradually slow down. Currently it is running VERY slow. Restart seems to help a little and closing apps not in use, but it gradually slows down.

Using 2021 Asus router with iMac, PC laptop and iPhones 13Pro and 13Pro Max. All devices run fine except the iPad.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

Perform a forced restart of your iPad - and then update your iPad to iPadOS 17.1.

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

Having the same issue with my iPad 6. The weird thing is my wife has an iPad 5th Generation running iPad OS 17 and does not have this issue.

It seems to be a RAM management issue.

It got so bad last fall that I wiped the device and started over from scratch. Almost no apps installed on it now, and iCloud Drive turned off, (so it’s not a storage issue) and yet the iPad continues to be unbearably slow, frequently freezes, and eventually crashes and restarts. iPad OS 17 has been terrible in the iPad 6.

Tried the same no luck. Compared to Fire HD 10 that used to be the same speed now Fire is faster. Thought of getting new IPad 10 but kinda tired of the stranglehold with Apple. Running 17.5.1 so maybe time to look over the fence. Thanks Apple. 6 IPads , geez too many iPhone and 27 inch iMac.

Just tried cleared Safari history completely. Removed Microsoft Office and did hard rest. On restart battery showed 15% then 100% and reset to now 35% as it’s plugged in recharging. Surprised to see Safari and IPad seems much snappier. iPad 6 -32 GB

Good luck

Same here.. very slow for the past 6 months or so. I do keep my device free of garbage apps, no notifications, no widgets, etc. as I hate a cluttered device and btw no more than 10 apps overall. Is Apple slowing these things down ‘AGAIN’? to force you to buy a newest model. Ridiculous.. we’ll see where this goes.
