macOS Sonoma Doesn’t Remember Window Size

Hello,

After updating to macOS Sonoma, the system doesn’t seem to remember the window size for a bunch of apps, Mail, Safari, Botes, etc after closing the windows or quitting the app.

This happens whether I have selected the “Close Windows When Quitting App” option in setting or not.

are there any ways to fix this?

I had this issue following my upgrade to Sonoma. I've just fixed it by making the extended display my "main display". All windows are now remembered as they were previously.

I also selected "displays are separate spaces" so that actually there isn't really a "main display". i.e. Both windows have the top menu and a minimised application dock.

I'm pretty sure I had these settings on before, so perhaps the upgrade reverted a couple of them.

I don't think this is true either. I have been using Mac OS since Leopard, and I have never experienced this issue before. Every window size I have set has been honoured. Except for Sonoma.

Currently, I am running Sonoma 14.1 on a Mac Mini M2 Pro, and I have issues with the window size being remembered with the Apple Music app, and the Spark email client. Even if I minimize these windows, when I open them again, the window size is not honoured.

I don't have issues with Firefox, but I certainly don't think this issue is specific to Firefox either.

This is not the behavior I remember on Ventura though. Is this the new for Sonoma?

It will be the default size after closing the window and reopening.

Anyway, I am using an Intel MacBook, which has a different Sonoma than yours, which is Sonoma for ARM. Upgraded to 14.1 everything works well - tested all the apps I usually use.

Starting two days ago, when I close the latest version of Firefox in the evening (where I have 20-30 windows stacked up neatly on top of each other), when I go to reopen Firefox the next morning and select "restore previous session", all the windows tile all the way across my main screen. The windows no longer all neatly stacked on top of each other. This is HIGHLY annoying and I can find nothing on the net that describes this issue, much less offering a solution.

FWIW: Firefox has never offered the traditional "Quit and Keep Windows" option when quitting as many (most?) other applications do.

Mac Studio M1 Max running most current version of Ventura.
