Opened a phishing email on my Apple laptop

I clicked on a link of an email while on my Apple MacBook Air, which opened a window that I realized was scam related. It was only opened for 2 seconds when I realized - to my great dismay - that it was a fake and closed/deleted the window. Then I trashed the email and emptied the trash.

How long does it take for a scam link to "get into" a computer?

I can't believe I fell for it. I usually check the email address, but this time they got me before I checked. I am getting a LOT of scammers lately, from "CVS, Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace Hardware" etc. that are all fake.
