Apple Watch battery drains super fast after 10.1 update.

Series 7 Apple Watch. After 10.1 update my battery only lasts a few hours. I can literally watch the percentage go down. Rebooted the watch. Shut off background app refresh after advised by a friend. Still drains ridiculously fast. It’s essentially useless now. I’m out of ideas. Anyone else have this problem? This is crazy.

My watch used to last two days, even with me running an hour a day. I no longer run and now it drains faster. I have to put it on the charger overnight and again mid-day. Normally, it takes about an hour to charge. But there are days that it takes up to five hours to hit 100%. I haven’t added anything or changed any settings since I got it almost two years ago.

Today I updated my watchOS 10.1 and my Apple Watch Series 7 drained within 2 hrs after charging. I also noticed that the watch was hot. At first I thought I forgot to put it on the charger before going to bed, but there’s clearly an issue with this firmware. It’s there a way to go back to the previous version until this bug is fixed?

Mine did too. I knew it was going to be trouble when it went from 100% to 73% while updating aka on the charger. Even running in airplane mode and low power mode with a bunch of stuff turned off per the support tech I talked to (post-restore) I've still had to charge 3 times today.

The phone got better after the update and turning off airdrop completely, but the watch is unusable in it's current state.

Same thing with my Series 7 and currently scheduled for phone support tomorrow with Apple. You’re lucky to get a few hours my watch battery literally drains within minutes. I knew I was in trouble when the morning after the update, I took the watch off the charger and it was 13%. I tried a factory reset and it didn’t help. What’s funny is that after messaging with Apple, I was getting nowhere when the rep said, “So you can confirm that the watch is not working since the initial purchase?” No that was two years ago. I’ve explained the issue to you now three times but let’s try this-

watch work fine for two years

watch updated with software 10.1

watch no work fine now

It’s clearly the update that caused this but I’ll keep you all posted.

I have a brand new ultra two less than one week old. I left it on the charger last night for the update, and when I woke up this morning, I put it on and went out to breakfast. On the way home less than two hours later it was on low power. I brought it home and put it on the charger and it took all day to charge. I put it on my wrist and it was dead less than two hours later. This is absolutely ridiculous. I’ve been depending on my Apple Watch for a number of things for years and I’m wondering if I have put my faith in the wrong technology at this point.

Same here with my SE. Charge won’t last and I ho early can’t use the watch so far.

can’t use it as an alarm since the charge won’t last through the night and can’t use it during the day since I go to work at 6:30AM and return at 7PM….

I really hope they solve this really fast cause I don’t know what to do…

Yeah until Apple recognises it as a problem support won’t be able to do anything. Diagnostics show fine battery because it is. This is clearly a software bug that is causing the processor to drain the battery quickly, it’s not affecting everyone so gonna be hard to diagnose but there must be some common link between all those affected.

Step one is make enough noise that Apple accepts it’s a problem.

My brand new Ultra 2 went from 2-2.5 days of battery before the update, to going from 100% to 20 percent in less than 5 hours.

It does charge and it does not overheat. This is NOT normal behaviour due to rebuild of caches or other such mumbo jumbo.

Reboots, and restores without backups make no difference (as others have allready reported), presumably going back to 10.0 might make a difference but that is not possible.

Hoping a fix comes quickly. For now, I put it in Energy saving mode, that seems to bypass whatever process is sucking up energy (though it is a somewhat crippled device now).
