Can we use is Mac mini as a Server ? (7/24 uptime running)

Hi Everyone.

In order to automate our Gitlab CI CD project in the IOS App, it must work without shutting down. In other words, it is like a Server.

Can we buy a Mac Mini for this?

7/24 The power cable will be permanently connected.

This Apple Mac Mini will not break down after 2 months or 3 months ?

Running Mac Mini headless as a Music Server. I am currently running Roon Core as my music server from my iMac Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020 with 32 GB RAM and 2TB storage . My iMac is upstairs in my study. I use my iPad to control Roon so I can play all my music files (stored on a La Cie external hard drive attached to my iMac) as well as stream music from Qobuz streaming service through my Roon Ready network streamer which is connected to my hifi system in the lounge downstairs. This set up works well and sounds great. The only problem is that I have to have the iMac switched on all day in order to run Roon and this causes the fan in my iMac to work hard and push out warm air into the room. This is obviously not only wastes electricity but in hot weather it makes my small study uncomfortably hot. So I'm thinking of buying a Mac Mini M2 placing it on my hifi rack in the lounge and running it headless with Roon Core downloaded on to it instead of my iMac. My questions are as follows: Would it work? If I left the Mac mini on 24/7 would it stay cool and quiet? Would I be able to control the Mac mini from my iPad?

Mac Mini to iMac My iMac that I bought in 2020 has been running slower lately, will buying a Mac mini and connecting it to my 3 year old iMac improve its performance? Or should I instead get a checkup on my old iMac

Upgrading macOS without Internet I am now working for an organisation which has an 'air-gapped' network meaning Macs on that network have zero Internet connectivity. (Deliberately so for maximum security.) Historically Macs in this situation could be updated by download a 'combo' updater from the Apple website and copying it to a file server in the air-gapped network and then having each Mac run it. Likewise a full-blown macOS installer could be used to upgrade them. With newer macOS generations Apple stopped issuing combo updaters or even delta updaters. It is however possible to download a full-blown macOS installer via a script and it is also possible to use Apple Configurator to download the IPSW image file. I would however appreciate it if anyone has real world experience of doing offline Mac upgrades and can indicate if there is still a need to be connected for activation purposes - which is the case when doing an erase and restore or any other issues that would make this difficult. Clearly connecting the Macs to the Internet to update or upgrade them defeats the point of their being air-gapped. Note: It is not my choice that an air-gapped network is being used so advice not to do this will not be helpful.

I have a 2010 MacMini that I installed an SSD drive in and it has been running as a home file server and media server for several years now and has been running 24/7. I have it connected to a UPS so in case of a power outage, it can be gracefully shut down and keep running for short outages.

So, I don't see any reason why a newer Mini would have any issues.

well it's harddrive would not really server grade, but if it's a newer SSD disk it would last longer
