command F2 key combination
is there a way to make the command F2 key combination work on an older Mac keyboard (A1048)? target display mode works just fine, but only with recent bluetooth keyboard. is key remapping an option?

Try to remap keys on Mac using macOS settings:
Open System Preferences:
Go to Keyboard Settings:
Select the Keyboard Tab:
Click on the Modifier Keys... Button:
Remap Keys:
thanks for your reply, I checked your suggestion before though and just now checked again: it is not an option. to be clear: I am not trying to change command into F2, I simply would like the command+F2 combination to work the same way it does on newer apple keyboards: start up 'target display mode'.
I find it a little difficult to imagine the key mapping for Command F2 is that different on the older keyboard. However, you might want to look at Ukelele, or at least ask them if it would help.
well me too... that's why I hope there is a way around this. but then again, target display mode is only available on a few iMac models between 2009-2014. and the mentioned keyboard A1048 is a 2003 model. took a first quick glance at ukelele, thanks, I'll read it thoroughly later on!
by the way: these people describe the same problem, without solution: older Mac keyboard simply doesn't respond to ⌘F2 apparently...

You're welcome. Anything is possible. I've been using Macs since long before 2003 but I no longer have one of those keyboards. For that matter I've never bothered with TDM.
