command F2 key combination

is there a way to make the command F2 key combination work on an older Mac keyboard (A1048)? target display mode works just fine, but only with recent bluetooth keyboard. is key remapping an option?

Try to remap keys on Mac using macOS settings:

Open System Preferences:

  • Click on the Apple logo in the top-left corner of your screen and select "System Preferences.

Go to Keyboard Settings:

  • In System Preferences, click on "Keyboard."

Select the Keyboard Tab:

  • Choose the "Keyboard" tab if it's not already selected.

Click on the Modifier Keys... Button:

  • At the bottom-right, click on the "Modifier Keys..." button.

Remap Keys:

  • In the Modifier Keys window, you should see a list of keys. Find the Command (⌘) Key dropdown menu and select the desired key function. If available, you can choose the F2 key from the dropdown.

well me too... that's why I hope there is a way around this. but then again, target display mode is only available on a few iMac models between 2009-2014. and the mentioned keyboard A1048 is a 2003 model. took a first quick glance at ukelele, thanks, I'll read it thoroughly later on!

by the way: these people describe the same problem, without solution: older Mac keyboard simply doesn't respond to ⌘F2 apparently...
