coverting Pages 13.2 to pages 09 not working

I had completed a pages document in the current and last version of pages (as of this writing V13.2) and was trying to export to a pages 09 version of the same document for a friend who is running an older system. when I converted the file (7 page document)the formatting was out of place in a few of the pages, the text also was placed in different pages. the first pages ironically were fine. I was only allowed to edit the corrections if I made a copy, but the copy was in the newer format which defeats the purpose. any Idea why this conversion to pages 09 doesn't work? it works when I convert to PDF but then my friend can't edit it or add content. any suggestion or an easier fix is welcome.
