Apple Series 9 - Battery drain and heat Issues after Update to watchOS 10.1

Thanks for the update Apple.

-- On the previous version of the watchOS, those issues weren't present. --

I charged the watch, wait 2-3h than battery is low

While the watch is functioning, the temperature is getting so high that you start thinking that's a feature apple released to keep you warm this winter.

Take a look at this

Mine 9 went from 100% to 26% in 2 hours! They better fix this or don’t think I want do a different watch in general!

I first saw this issue (extremely fast discharging) after the 10.0 update on a Series 4. On my other Series 6, no issues seen from 10.0 to 10.0.1. (Both watches are GPS/wifi models, not the cellular version)

After yesterday’s update to 10.1, both watches now drain extremely fast, even if no activities or the. music (possible suspect) were being used.

Also, charging is extremely slow, including “pauses” due to high internal heat. Previously, I could charge from 20% to 100% in less than an hour, but I’m lucky to see any charge increase beyond 10% over an hour with the current issue.

Turn on Low Power mode to keep minimum functionality and to save charge. (FYI, any Activity workouts automatically turn on Low Power Mode since OS version 9, I believe.)

I’m also charging a Series 6 GPS model now with LPM on, and WiFi turned off to see if charging is faster, as after the 10.1 update, my watch appeared to be draining as fast/while it was being charged. I’ll also try charging with Airplane mode on, if LPM + WiFi off only don’t show visible charge time improvements.

(Also seeing the same rapid discharge problem on a Series 4 GPS model.)

Same here. I have the SE. I started having these issues after the update, would take it off the charger at 100% and then within 90 minutes it was dead. I went to charge it and it was getting SUPER hot. I thought, since the watch was almost 3 years old, that the watch was just crapping out on me. So I went to mobile and got the SE 2 since they were having deals on them. Set it up last night and the SAME thing is happening with this BRAND NEW WATCH. This is ridiculous and apple is about to start losing people for their SERIOUSLY FLAWED update.

The solution for me was to remove a few third party apps that create faces for the watch. One of them Moby Face was pinging the watch non stop until the battery was dead. Once I removed those apps (I had three and honestly never used them) my watch went back to normal. Now, I’m not saying this was the only solution to the problem. There’s probably other factors involved. Maybe I got lucky. But for me the problem went away.
