iPad keeps ringing even after call is answered on the iPhone

My daughter’s iPad 5th generation, running the most current iOS, keeps ringing even after the call is answered on another device. This happens sometimes when not plugged in but always happens while charging. It happens with phone calls as well as FaceTime calls. She will either miss the call or answer the call on her iPhone. Either missed or answered, the iPad will continue ringing but not the normal ring. It is a rapid, abbreviated version of the correct ring. Like a scratched CD.

Thank you for the response. Unfortunately, restarting the devices did not resolve the issue. Nor did updating the iOS on them. Her Apple ID was logged into three devices; her iPhone, her iPad and my MacBook Air. All three would ring but only the iPad got stuck ringing after the call was missed or picked up.

This has been an ongoing issue for quite some time. I’ve tried various things, including the above, with no success. Finally,

  • I logged her Apple ID out of the iPad (iCloud, iMessage and FaceTime) and I logged her Apple ID out of the MacBook Air.
  • I reset her iPad’s settings.
  • I logged her Apple ID back into her iPad and my MacBook

and the issue is now resolved. Thank goodness!!!

Hello ToesUpTommy,

Let's use the steps below to restart both her iPhone and iPad:

1. Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.
The volume button is located on the left side of the device, and the side button is located on the right
2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo.

A restart can sometimes help address odd behaviors.

Should that still persist, you'll want to reach out to Apple Support: Apple Support They'll be in the best position to look into this further.

Take care.
