Apple Notifications text ( apple.com "Electronics Store" FRAUD???? )

I have iCloud account and iPhone

I received this text message yesterday:

From: Apple Notifications (with verified check mark)

Note: Instead of circle next to text like all others,

there is a dark gray square with white apple inside.

This is the first time I've ever received this type of text.

After opening the text, the top banner is also dark gray.

"i" icon says it's Verified "Electronics Store" apple.com

Message: "Apple Store: Before you come to pick up your device in

order W1421020372, we recommend you perform an iCloud backup..."

  • I have made zero device orders
  • Zero orders in my iPhone or iCloud
  • Zero eMail confirmations of any orders
  • No posted or pending financial charges (yet)

I called Apple.com online order customer service:

The automated system recognized my phone number,

and asked if I was calling about the order placed yesterday!

Then it asked for billing zip-code which does not match...

I got a live person on the phone who wasn't able to help:

  • They confirmed there is an active order with my number
  • They confirmed the order-number is the same order-number
  • They confirmed they did send me the text message I received.
  • They refused to remove my phone number from this transaction.
  • AND they refused to give me any other information or assistance,

because the billing zip code on the order didn't match mine,

and the email attached to the order wasn't any of my emails.

Is this happening to anyone else?

Why can't I see order details, and how do I remove myself from this order?

iPhone 11 Pro, iOS 16

It sounds as if someone entered an incorrect number. As long as you don't get charged for anything, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I would be a bit concerned if you got a notification that someone was trying to log into your Apple ID.

If you haven't already, you may want to add two-factor authentication to your Apple ID.
