Cannot update macbook OS big Sur- update window keeps searching for updates

My power point is having problems and says that soon is no longer compatible with big sur, so I decided to update my OS. I have GBs enough in my HD, my MacBook is from 2020 so no old but it gets to this window and just rotates forever looking for updates and going nowhere. It does not freeze, just rotates forever . Any suggestions of what could be happening?
