set up mac with different apple id users
My husband & I both use the MAC and each have our own iPads, how can I set the MAC up to separate our profiles so emails are not comingled?

Set up your Mac with two user accounts and have your activities completely separate. Apple has a support document Add a user or group on Mac.
There are also plenty of videos on YouTube which describe this, such as this one.
