Hi,
Your printer is not mentioned in the latest About AirPrint - Apple Support. However, an HP LaserJet Pro M1217nfw MFP was in fact listed in a very old (February 13, 2012) iOS: AirPrint 101 (HT4356) Apple article as a supported AirPrint model.
Also, AirPrint is mentioned in the HP product specifications at https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/product-specs/hp-laserjet-pro-m1217nfw-multifunction-printer-series/model/4075471, but it says that the printer may require a firmware upgrade to be AirPrint-compatible. This may be an early version. You could perhaps check this to begin with.
Generally speaking, an AirPrint model can be used with macOS without an additional printer driver, provided that the printer and the Mac computer are connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router). This connection does not have to be wireless. AirPrint works with wireless (Wi-Fi) or wired (Ethernet) network connections, so one could choose to wire the printer to one of the LAN ports of the Wi-Fi router instead.
