With the phone locked on a Belkin 3 in 1 charging stand, I keep waking up to no clock, even after selecting "never" for the display. "low power" is OFF. A clock, should not be this difficult. I've had the same "always on" clock on my iPhone for years and never once did I wake up to no clock. So what do I need to do to make Apples clock work, reliably?

Yes. If you want Standby to be active all night, Always on MUST be turned on. This is why your screen goes off during the night.

You MUST have Always on for Standby to work.
I generally lock my screen before setting in the stand, otherwise everything is set correctly. I'm not sure why the order would make a difference. Went to sleep last night with the clock on, and woke up with black. Note..I have "always on" turned off, as I have no use for it. If this is the issue...When selecting "never", it seems Apple would have prompted the user to enable "always on"..or better yet, just made it automatic while charging.
Oh, Standby works with Always on, off while charging. It worked with motion before the last update. Are you saying that with the new updates "never" option, that "always on" needs to be enabled? If so, Apple should state that a little more clearly, or as I said, make it automatic when selecting "never". No brainer.
Would be nice to have a clock for us not “always on” people that simply works when charging without changing all sorts of settings. Like show clock when docked. How about a “always on” while charging option? So I guess it’s back to my clock app the doesn’t require that in the meantime. Rr
