Are you trying to connect your iMac to your network router by wireless or by Ethernet? Which exact model is your iMac and what version of macOS is it running?

Trying to connect an iPad to the iMAC via wireless network router. It is connected and running all programs except the "Mail" program. I have accomplished a work around. Thank you for your response.
