Apple wallet battery drain

For years I’ve been trying to find out why my iPhone 14 and 15 pro max batteries die so quickly with normal usage. No gaming etc. both phones for years show that apple waller is consuming often over 50% of the battery usage every day.

I’ve heard of other similar issues on here but none have been addressed by apple.

one found that the only way to relive was to close their shared apple card account completely which is not an option for me because my wife uses it a lot.

this seems like a bug syncing transactions between family members or from Goldman but it’s hard to tell.

I have an appointment monday. I removed apple card from my phone and watch today and my watch battery was still in the 90s after about 5 or 6 hours. Normally with Apple card on my watch it is about to 40% by mid-day of just wearing and occasionally looking at the time.

phone battery seems to be performing well without it too.

The battery page shows wallet down to 20% in the last 24 hours down from 56% this morning. Very strange but it looks like it is directly related to some background processes running related to apple card.

Wallet is constantly trying to contact banks or add cards from iPhone to the Watch. It may also be trying to sync or backup data from iCloud.

Please do a force restart of both devices and review the battery usage over the next 24 to 48 hours.

What Apple Watch do you have? Have you up dated it’s iOS recently? If so, have you done a forced restart (hard restart) of the watch? I frequently have a battery issue with my Ultra when I update Watch OS. A forced restart brings everything back to normal for me.

Another possibility, as you point out, syncing data. An easy fix for a syncing issue is unpairing your iPhone and Watch, doing a forced restart of both devices, then pairing the devices again.

I’ll update here later when I circle back with support. This reached senior support and the wallet team. They are having me:

fully erase and restore my phone and set up as new instead of from a backup in case there is some bad data causing it.

Then wait 24 hours before trying to add the Apple Card back to wallet.

Have you talked to Apple Care with your issue? I had a 14 PM and currently have a 15 PM. My wife and I have a joint Apple Card account, and battery drain is not an issue on her iPhone (iPhone 12 Pro) or mine. I wonder if it’s more an Apple ID issue, hence talking to Apple Support rather than Goldman.

I had a Series 5 before the Ultra and did the same procedure with it. I’d update the iOS and do a forced restart the next day. I could see the high battery usage starting right after the Watch update. The forced/hard restart always did the trick for me.

I went ahead and did this yesterday and let it go for a while. But I still have the issue.

I actually did fill erase and restores before too hoping that would fix it. So far just removing the Apple Card is the only thing that has worked.

Thanks for your help though by the way. It’s a very weird issue.

This is definitely still an issue.

I just moved over from a 12 to a new 15. Look at the battery usage chart below. WTH is the wallet using 50% of the battery for? What could it conceivably be doing??
