In only one of my text groups, I have this audio message symbol and I inadvertently sent a one-minute audio to a whole group of people (😬). Thank all that is holy I didn’t say anything bad or talk about anybody. I can’t figure out how to get rid of it!

Tap on the microphone that is in the lower right corner, under the keyboard. This was really irritating me, and more than that, something near the top of the screen is activating voice message from within a conversation. It is really ******* me off, and I can’t figure out what it is and how to turn it off.
I was about to post your exact issue and then (again) tried the microphone button. By turning it on (lower right of screen) and then turning it off via the microphone icon that appeared in the message line, the red audio symbol disappeared. Go figure. Good luck.
After trying everything . I read a few different sites and found the answer to getting rid of the red recording and going back to the microphone in text. I went to general, keyboards, and noticed my "one handed keyboard" was off, I chose Right and the microphone came back inside the text box on the right side. YEAH!!!
I had a similar issue. I figured this out through trial and error.
Use the text to speech function (the microphone symbol to the bottom right of the keyboard). This toggles the mode between audio clips to dictation. That seemed to work for me.
This was happening to me. If you don’t see the microphone on the bottom right then go to Settings and look up "Dictation" and enable dictation on your General Keyboard settings. This will get rid of the red microphone button!
tap the microphone in the bottom right corner under the keyboard once, then once there’s a circle around it tap it again. that’ll make the red go away
from what i’ve seen, the red appears after using the voice recording feature. whether it was an accident or not, the voice recording feature was used and i’m assuming imessage thinks you want to use it again, so it puts that button there for convenience. but clearly, it can be quite annoying
When you tap the text box as if you are about to text a message, the standard microphone icon shows at the very bottom right corner. After tapping the microphone as if you’re about to leave a voice text, it replaces the red audio symbol. Just exit out as normal.
Hold your finger on the screen for a second as if you’re about to send a text message …
on the bottom right side
a microphone will appear
click that mic
then exit out of the text message (as if your done swiping up to close out your apps )
after u exit out it should go away!

No worries. I believe I said to turn dictation on, not off, that should do it.
Once dictation is on, you should then see the microphone on the bottom right of the messages conversation, allowing you to tap on it.
If you still don’t, make sure you have Siri turned on in your settings.
If it still doesn’t show up, or if it’s greyed out, just make sure you’re not on any type of call, this will disable the feature.

Thank you for this advice. I am experiencing the same issue, however, I do not have the microphone icon, only the voice recording icon.
I’ve attempted to press it and hold it down hoping that it would disappear and the microphone icon will return, but it doesn’t happen.
Like the previous poster, it is only appearing in two different text message conversations (which I’d prefer not to delete).
Do you have any suggestions?

in my imessage text area I see that red record audio thing on the right, I often accidently hit it - I want that turned off, but i don't see a microphone icon in the bottom keyboard area on my iphone to try to toggle that off...
