Connecting Apple iMac desktop to Dell monitors

I have 2 Dell Monitors (model P2419H) which I want to connect up to my Apple iMac desktop as extra displays.

I have purchased USB-C to HDMI adaptors as well as HDMI cables to connect to the extra monitors.

so far, with the exception of a few seconds, I cannot get a display on the Monitors.

Any ideas why this might be?

iMac 21.5″, macOS 12.7

Hi,

If the displays themselves have Thunderbolt ports, you can connect one display to another, and then connect one of the displays to a Thunderbolt port on your Mac. If your Mac has two Thunderbolt ports, you can connect each display to separate Thunderbolt ports on your Mac.

Unfortunately the monitors don’t have thunderbolt ports, however when researching I was instructed to purchase the thunderbolt to hdmi adapter and then connect up to the monitor with a hdmi cable

HDMI port: Connect directly to HDMI with an HDMI cable. ...
Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 3, or USB-C port: Connect to HDMI with an adapter such as the Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter.
