Setting up new iphone

Hello guys, I have a weird question but excuse my overthinking please,I bought a new iPhone 13 and I was trying to set up the device and transfer data for my old iPhone to the new one .

but it required an update and when I downloaded the update. It was a stuck on “install now” For long time I chose the start over option on the power button. Was that the right choice or did I damage my iPhone somehow? since it was trying to install update even when it kept loading , but I started over

Hello,

Nah, no damage. If it won't install, you might have to connect it to your computer:

If your iPhone won't turn on or is frozen - Apple Support

Then see:

Transfer content from your previous iOS device to your new iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Yes it didn’t install sir

then I chose start over option because it was stuck so it erased everything

so i when it turned back on I updated the phone and after that format it to transfer data

it worked

but my main point is

was what i did correct

for choosing “start over” when it was stuck on trying to install the update?
