Please check your macs version year and name. You can check that via Apple logo in menu bar>about this mac. Then you can see if you’re elegible for software updates. Go to system/settings/preferences>software update to see What is mentioned there. If there is “your mac is up to date” most of the times your mac is to old to update further.
