How do I backup my iPhone to my new Macbook Air, Sonoma 14.0?

The usb cable that worked with my iPhone5 doesn't work with my MACBOOK AIR. And the usb cable that came with my new computer doesn't wwork with my iPhone. Hmmm?

Is your iPhone the new USB-C iPhone? Or does it support lightning:

If it is USB-C iphone, you need one of these cables:

https://www.amazon.com/Charging-Certified-Charger-Compatible-MacBook/dp/B0BXKZ2JV6

and one of these two hubs:

https://www.smklink.com/products/usb-c-multi-port-hub

https://www.siig.com/search/JU-DK0F11-S1

The hubs offer a pass through for the MacBook's USB-C power adapter, and a connector that has enough power to power the iPhone.

Otherwise USB-C to Lightning Cable (1 m) - Apple will work.
