Magic Mouse STILL Smart Zooming All Over the Place (Oct 2023)

[This was addressed previously at - "smart" zoom - Apple Community, but is still a problem]

FIRST, I've been around awhile on Mac, so I'd love to hear your thoughts, but please not something dismissive or patronizing.

Have loved my 2020 iMac Retina 5K, always up-to-date (today Sonoma 14.1). I have the smart keyboard/mouse purchased with the iMac from Apple.com store.

From Day One, the smart mouse randomly zooms in and out all over the place. Can you imagine how frustrating this is when I'm trying to work on map detail, photos etc?

I disabled Smart Zoom in System Preferences for Mouse. And Tah-Dah! It... did nothing. This is the most common remedy I've seen out there.

Generally I love the Smart Mouse except for this. Do I have to buy a crude Logitech mouse to solve my problem?

I'd LOVE to hear from someone from Apple that actually cares. Or anyone else that'll just cry with me and hand me a teddy bear.

Or, maybe a surrogate Mom or Dad (that would be a grandfather or grandmother probably for you) :-) that can give me a, "Well, Timmy... If you _______ (fill in the blank), then....", I'd so appreciate the assistance!

(Bonus points if you know where that comes from).

Thanks everyone!

V

Okay-- I believe I just found the answer... or at least one answer for my case.

Essentially, I realized I still primarily use Google Chrome (latest). Turns out someone reported similar problems on the browser.

The recommended fix, is:

1) Go to Settings (in Chrome - the vertical 3-dot pattern at top right of URL/Ext bar);

2) System (left menu column);

3) Then, "Use hardware acceleration when available";

4) Slide button to Disable;

5) Relaunch Chrome to activate the change

That fixed the Mac zooming in and out for me.

Note on my Mac: I also have "Smart Zoom" option in the Mouse settings disabled-- (STEPS: Apple icon top left corner of screen; System Settings; Mouse (left column menu); "Smart Zoom"; deselect)

I hope this helps anyone else!

I have the same or similar problem. I'm trying to edit a document (musescore 4, though it seems to happen for any app) and instead of the document sitting still on the page, the doc moves, floats, wiggles, with every spurious touch or near touch of a finger on the mouse. It drives me nuts. I'm trying to drill in on fine details and on every action I have to chase the stupid placement of the document all over the screen. How do I turn this off?
