Migration to Sonoma question

I have two Macs. I upgraded to Sonoma on the MBP and have had terrible problems and the Apple Store Genius Bar said it can only be resolved by erasing to factory settings and reinstalling.

What I plan to do is erase and reinstall and then migrate all the settings and apps from the other Mac which is still running Ventura. Is that a possible/sensible thing to try. I'm reluctant to upgrade the other Mac until I have the MBP running correctly. This may be overly cautious but I'm growing more timid as I age :-) (80 next year).

I see my options as trying the above, or upgrade the other Mac and hope for the best, or just erase, reinstall and manually reload everything (probably a 2 day job for me)

please advise if you've got some knowledge of this process.

thanks

Yes. Its very possible and very sensible. You can use Migration Assistant to do this.

Thanks, guys.

I do have almost exactly the same software on the desktop and MBP but I'm having no problems with the desktop and major ones on the MBP, which is why I don't want to upgrade the desktop till I see the results on the MBP.

what I am a touch worried about is the desktop is Ventura. (hmmm...that could be why I have no problems).

Well, it sounds like the plan at least passes the sanity test. If it doesn't work, then I can always do the manual update which I really dread...

thanks to both of you,
