Formatting Toshiba Canvia ext. HD on a Mac?

I've followed any advice in the forum already and Continue to get error messages when trying to format a new Toshiba Canvia HD for Mac Journaled. Here's the error, help?

Erasing

Could not mount disk3s2 after erase

File system formatter failed. : (-69832)


Operation failed…

Erase the whole physical drive as GUID partition and MacOS Extended (Journaled). Within Disk Utility you may need to click "View" and select "Show All Devices" before the physical drives appear on the left pane of Disk Utility.
