I want to update my iPhone

There are different ways to ensure the highest iOS that your device will support is installed on your device.

iPhones 6S through 7, and SE(gen. 1), will currently only update to iOS 15.8

When updating, your device will update to the highest version currently available that it will support, or it will just say it is up to date (and can't go any higher) and won't install anything. If you want to run a higher system version than your current device is capable of running, you need to buy a newer device.

If your iPhone is running iOS 15.8, that is as far as it can go. No more updates are available.

If you are asking about iOS 16, you will need an iPhone 8 or higher.

If you are asking about iOS 17, you will need an iPhone XR or XS or higher model.

The iPhone 7 Plus cannot update further then iOS 15.8

Sorry, but the built in hardware of your iPhone 7 Plus does not support any further iOS upgrades.
