Final Cut Pro Video Content Created Date incorrect - card transfer date time and not shooting date time

When I import a .mov or an MP4 into FCPX the Meta Data Content Created Date is incorrect. It shows transfer from Cam Card time and not Shooting time.

The screen shots show the actual File Creation time as shown by EXIF tool, but FCPX shows the time the file was transferred to the SSD from Cam Card

- that is USELESSS for me in the edit.

It seems to be an issue that has been ongoing for years as I have seen other discussions about it.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

My system - Lumix GH5, Lumix GH6 to Sandisk or AngelBird cards. Samsung T7 drives, MacOSX; Ventura 13.2.1. FCPX 10.6.6

MacBook Pro (M1, 2020)

How were these files imported into your Mac?

FCP uses "Content Created" as the file creation date, which in this case appears to have been when the file was copied to your drive, rather than when it was captured by the camera.

Importing the media directly using FCP will preserve the file created date, as will importing using Image Capture.

You should use feedback and request that Apple adds the EXIF date as a column option in the browser.

I found a better way - ShootShifter in the App store.

Well worth the $14

I drop the whole folder onto Shootshifter and the files in FCPX get the right date and time - magic

I believe that with exiftool in the Terminal you should be able to adjust the file creation dates to match the media content dates. I have not tried it myself.

We imported from Cards to the SSD using the Finder.

Also sometimes on a Windows Laptop because not all team has Macs.

Any idea of a work around after the fact.
