Can optimized battery charging work properly for once???

2023 16” MB Pro, use it plugged in over 95% of the time.

Up until Sonoma 14.0 OBC was working properly, holding the charge at 80% most of the time.

After the 14.0 update came along, the charging routine went bonkers and started charging to 100% and discharging it to 80% for at least two times per day, sometimes even three, adding me extra battery cycles like crazy. I reset the OBC and after a day or two it started behaving normally as it should.

Now two weeks after the update to 14.1, the **** thing holds the charge to 100% at all times, OBC not even kicking in to discharge it and hold it to 80%.

Like WTH Apple, I don’t change charging routines with every OS update, why does this half baked feature of yours act like a complete illiterate and always reseting its rules and “learning” my patterns? Or is it even working at all???

Just give me a switch to set the max charge to 80% if your software won’t properly do the job for me or stop advertising features that barely work if they work at all to your users!

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 14.1

Personally I would not micro-manage the charging. You have reasonable expectation of a 1000 cycle count.

BHM is dynamic not static.

if your battery needs the exercise then it is working as expected in an effort to prolong the working life of the battery, independent of what you think

you are doing it correctly—

The rule of thumb—if you are near the mains leave it plugged in, if you need the portability then run on the battery only—this is how you optimize your battery charging and extend the working life of your battery by reducing the cycle count.
