Apple Mail is extremely slow in composing e-mails.

I use Apple mail; specifically, my Gmail account is tied to it. The app has become extremely slow. As I start to type an e-mail address or type in the body, the circle appears, and it takes time to populate information.

I am using a 2018 iMac with the most current operating system.

It could be many minutes before the content appears. This is only a proiblem on the IMac, my Iphone and Ipad both display content immediately. Additionally, I also use Mozilla Thunderbird as a means of sending bulk emails with merged data (something Apple has never offered) and this app displays the contents immediately. There is obviously something wrong with Apple Mail. I have tried other suggested fixes by turning off the privacy settings such as 'hide my URL' but to no avail. I would be interested to know if anyone else still has this problem or if there is a fix I am not aware of.

Typing lag time writing an email When I am composing an email there is a terrible lag time while typing. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? I am using Apple Mail on Mac OS Big Sur v 11.7 iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014)

mail app slow to load reading pane mail loads just fine in preview on my macbook pro. if i go to look at an email it sometimes takes 10-15 seconds for the content to load in the reading pane. however if i hit "reply" the content appears immediately in the reply window. no issues on phone, ipad. gmail and mac mail accounts both effected. OS 12.3.1
