Is it possible to update my operating system to macOS Sonoma? I have a Mac Air 2012 that is in great shape.

Unfortunately, MacOS Catalina is the newest MacOS you can run on your MacBook Air. The only way you'd be able to run Sonoma would be with a much newer Mac, I'm afraid.
