Final Cut Pro giving me "modified file" error... and then loading clips

I've been working on a project for the last week and everything's been fine. Yesterday I loaded it up though and found most of the clips were showing the red "modified file" error. The library hasn't been moved, filenames haven't been touched, I've got no idea what's changed. I just plugged in my SSD as per usual, but it all went haywire.

The weird thing is though, that after a while... the files eventually load correctly. I.e. FCP admits that the files haven't been modified after all. But loading the files is taking an age, and sometimes putting FCP into a non-responsive state. Extremely frustrating! Anyone got any tips? What the ****'s happened here?? It's driving me insane. Thanks!

Hello finn_yes,

My educated guess says that your problem is your hard drive capacity. Your MacBook Air is searching for RAM (Random Access Memory) so needed for your FCP to find its path when your doing editing or any kind of work that is.

The other possibility is the speed of your Operating system.

It says at the bottom of your post that your still run with macOS 10.12 which is, IMOO a possible problem. If your running the macOS 10.12 Sierra vewrsion, there are security updates that are not available and this may create a conflict.

In conclusion, finn_yes, your *****d, like you say because you have no choice to upgrade or update your computer. Make a good back up before, Macs are good at doing mirors.

HTH.

Is the media stored outside the library? If so, does anything else do anything with the files outside of FCP? Just a guess but something like a wonky virus scanner can alter file's Modification (or last opened?) dates which could maybe trip up FCP. I have seen some older hard drive catalogers change metadata for every single file they index. Is anything else looking at those files, any cron jobs or something?
